Toye, Taye and Kehinde were children
of the same father but of two mothers. Toye was the eldest son among them of
age eighteen years. Their father was a driver and a subsistence farmer while
both mothers were traders. These children used to go to farm on weekends
especially Saturday when their father was out for driving. Their farm was a bit
far from their dwellings so they went there by vehicles. The common vehicle on
this road was tippers because of the presence of quarry in this area. Every
Saturday, they would go to Tipper Park whenever their father did not go with
them for free transportation because some of these drivers knew their father
with them.
After getting to the farm under no
supervision, they would work for three hours on farm and went for hunting.
Snails and crabs were their targets on several occasions and they would pick as
many as possible especially in the rainy season. Plucking of ripe pawpaw in
their farm was not left out. There was no day they would go to farm without
coming home with one thing of the other. Even their friends in their neighborhood
always waited for them from farm because of what they would enjoy from their
return.
One day, after work on farm as usual
they tried all they could to pick snails and crabs but no way because that was
towards the dry season. They decided to go fishing by using the hook and line
they had kept for so long on farm. Taye searched for bait they would use and he
was able to get few being in the dry season. They started fishing and small
fishes were being caught. The day was going dark little by little. All of
a
sudden, Toye started feeling that the fish eating the bait was not small, he
asked them to remain quiet, by the time the fish drew the hook down into the swampy,
Toye used all his power to draw out the big fish, immediately this fish was out
of the water, it was off the hook and was returning to the water when Toye used
his left leg to raise it back into dry land and was caught. The game was called
a day and planned to return home. Unfortunately, the last tipper they thought
would convey them to the city did not wait for them on the road. They decided
to sell the fish to raise the transport fare so that they could board a commercial
bus coming from the neighboring state. It was completely dark before they could
get home.
