Once upon a time, Ronald was
very troublesome and playful. Anytime he was sent on an errand, he would go his
way, playing football from one street to the other. He would never come home
until Ten O'clock or after. Beating little children in his neighborhood was
very common thereby reporting his notorious attitudes from different quarters
to his parents. His parents were tired of these non-profitable and barbaric
characters of him.
One day, his parents went to his
school to report him and seek for their advice. On getting there, they were
very flabbergasted with what they met on ground because they had been waiting
for them to come and hear what their son had done in the school. His teacher
brought the record of his misdeeds. He didn't always stay in the class.
Whenever, he was in the class, he would cause trouble and confusion. His class
teacher studied him very well and devised a mechanism of counseling which later
proved futile thereby adopting punishment as the last resort. Ronald could not
stay for five hours in the class without serving three-hour punishment.
With all these reports, Ronald’s
parents were very unhappy and humbly asked the Principal and his teacher on
what to do. Ronald was in Senior Secondary School 1 then and his teacher
advised his parents to seat him down and ask him what he wanted to do. After
making his choice, took him to their religious leader
for prayers and adopted
thorough monitoring on him. If he chose academics, they should bring him back
to school and see what God would do in his life. Ronald’s parents were relieved
a bit with these pieces of advice, thanked the Management and promised to
properly use them. They went their way home.
Ronald’s parents did as they were
advised at school and he promised his parents that he would turn a new leaf.
Surprisingly, Ronald started staying at home after school hour with his books
in his hands. Whenever he was asked to run an errand for them, he would quickly
go and come back. His parents were very delighted for this new development.
Nobody came to their home again to report him of his wrongdoings either at
school or in their neighborhood. He was punctual in the class and well-behaved
even his friends in class were very astonished too. His punctuality and
promptness in class helped him to improve in his academic performance. He did
very well in the third term examination and he was promoted to SSS 2.
In SSS 2, he was appointed as one
of the school prefects, time-keeper, whose responsibility was to ring the bell
as the time scheduled and to keep the school clock. This particular post was
given to a student that was punctual and responsible in school. He was asked to
attend extra-mural classes after school hour by his parents in the preparation
for the external WAEC. When he was in SSS 2 third term, he sat for external
WAEC and he passed all his papers at once. His parents were over-joyous and
advised him to start preparing for UTME as well as the internal WAEC the following
year but to let him knew that they were happy with his result, it was
celebrated. This celebration made him happy the more and promised to do better in
his futuristic examinations. Then there was a competition in their class in SSS
3 to see who would come first in all the subjects they registered for in WAEC.
To everybody’s surprise, Ronald cleared all his papers and came first in his
class. The school examination was not left out therefore winning virtually all
the prizes at the end of the term ceremony organized by the school Management.
His parents were very happy to see this day. What a beautiful change in one’s
life!
